Often times we get asked why we go the extra mile when it is not required. For us, the answer is a no brainer.
F.I.R.S.T. has altered our lives for the better. We want to share that same opportunity with others. Our team has become a beacon for the urban youth of New York City. Our members are proud symbols of aspiration for the youth that grew up through hardship, broken homes, and unsafe communities. Through a survey, we concluded that 88% of us didn't know what STEAM was before joining the team. With our intervention, 98% of our alumni pursue a career within the STEAM field. For most of us on the team, there was little incentive to pursue STEAM and the opportunities within it.
Every year the RoboTigers Team 1796 creates and participates in at least 25 outreach events. The outreach events aim to expose For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (F.I.R.S.T) and Science Technology Engineering Art and Math (S.T.EA.M) fields to as many people possible. Typically at outreach events, we demonstrate and explain our personal experiences and provide interactive activities to engage people.
The RoboTigers Team 1796 not only give back to their community by sharing their knowledge and experiences but also by volunteering in their community without their robot. Each year the RoboTigers volunteer a minimum of five times at various places. The RoboTigers have volunteered at F.I.R.S.T. Events (FRC, FTC, FLL and FLL Jr.), homeless shelters, it's my park day, elderly centers and more!
#changethestory was curated in 2018. We wanted to expand our network and inspire others to pursue S.T.E.A.M fields so we set out on a mission to start a campaign that shares real stories of incredible individuals and programs that have been impacted by S.T.E.A.M or promote S..T.E.A.M. We are always looking for new people to post. If you have anyone in mind please feel free to contact us with more information at .
